Recipes

Every recipe here is sized for a 530 ml jar, which is the whole point. Fill to the line, not past it, and always put the liquid in first — the blades need something to move through before they meet the frozen fruit.

Before work

The thirty-second breakfast

  • 150 ml milk or oat milk
  • 1 banana, broken up
  • A handful of frozen berries
  • 1 tablespoon oats
  • 1 teaspoon honey

Liquid first, then oats, then fruit. Two short presses.

The oats are what turn this from a drink into breakfast.

Coffee and banana

  • 120 ml cold coffee
  • 80 ml milk
  • 1 frozen banana
  • A pinch of cinnamon

Everything in at once. Three short presses, the frozen banana needs them.

Freeze bananas when they go spotty. They are better in this than fresh.

Green without the medicine taste

  • 150 ml apple juice
  • A large handful of spinach
  • Half a frozen mango
  • A squeeze of lime

Juice and spinach first, blend until smooth, then add the mango and blend again.

Blending the leaves alone first is why this comes out smooth instead of grassy.

After the gym

Chocolate protein, properly mixed

  • 200 ml milk
  • 1 scoop chocolate protein
  • 1 banana
  • 1 teaspoon peanut butter

Milk first, then powder, then the rest. One long press.

Powder on top of liquid, never the other way round, or it cakes on the blades.

Berry recovery

  • 150 ml water or coconut water
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein
  • A handful of frozen mixed berries
  • A few ice cubes

Two short presses, then one longer one.

Iced coffee protein

  • 150 ml cold coffee
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein
  • A handful of ice

Coffee and powder first, blend, then add the ice and blend again.

For the kids

Fruit puree

  • Half a pear, peeled
  • Half an apple, peeled
  • 60 ml water

Water first. Blend in short bursts until there are no lumps left.

Make more than you need and freeze the rest in an ice cube tray.

Hidden vegetable smoothie

  • 120 ml milk
  • 1 banana
  • A small handful of spinach
  • 2 strawberries

Milk and spinach first, blend, then the fruit.

The banana and strawberry win. They will not taste the spinach.

Not smoothies

Salad dressing

  • 4 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • Salt and pepper

Two short presses. It emulsifies and goes creamy.

Rinse straight away. Oil is the one thing that does not come off if it dries.

Pancake batter

  • 150 ml milk
  • 1 egg
  • 100 g flour
  • A pinch of salt

Liquid and egg first, flour last. Blend until there are no lumps.

Frozen margarita

  • 60 ml tequila
  • 30 ml lime juice
  • 20 ml triple sec
  • A big handful of ice

Liquids first, then ice. Two short presses, do not overfill.

Three rules that make all of these work

  1. Liquid first, frozen last. The blades need something to move through. Ice on the bottom is how you stall any blender, not just this one.
  2. Short presses beat one long one. Two or three bursts let the contents drop back onto the blades between them.
  3. Rinse it while it is still wet. Warm water, a drop of soap, one press, ten seconds. Leave it until tomorrow and you are scrubbing.
